Our Team’s Favourite Winter Activities
With countless unspoilt and atmospheric landscapes, exciting festivals and gorgeous cosy hotels to relax in, winter is a fantastic time to explore the UK and Ireland. Think warm crackling fires, festive Christmas markets, crisp morning walks and exhilarating cultural celebrations to brighten up the evenings. It’s an ideal time to visit for culture, celebrations and tranquility. At Sleigh’s, we love to use the quieter months to explore and enjoy some of our favourite winter activities throughout the country. From meeting Santa’s reindeer in the heart of the Cairngorms to warming up with a whisky by a cosy castle fireplace, here are some of our team’s favourite things to do in the colder months.
Meet Santa’s Reindeer
Enjoy a visit to a remarkable farm where you will meet Santa’s reindeer in their own home. These incredibly friendly animals will approach for food and affection, a great photo opportunity for a Christmas card! Along with them, encounter iron age pigs, Soay sheep and red and fallow deer for a fun day in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park.
Fireside Whisky and Storytelling
There’s nothing quite as warming after a cold winter walk than settling in with a dram by a crackling fire. Spend some time sampling various different whiskies until you find your favourite tipple as you listen to stories and myths from this land, accompanied by magical harp music.
Snowy Dog Walks
A favourite in our team is spending some time with our four-legged friends out in the winter snow before warming up by a fire in a quaint local pub. From a stroll in the park to climbing up to snow-covered peaks, there’s no better way to spend a snowy day than exploring Scotland, England and Ireland’s stunning landscapes with our dogs.
Enjoy a Wildlife Safari
Embark on a 4×4 adventure through some stunning landscapes in search of the varies wildlife of the British Isles. Wrap up in a nice cosy woollen jumper, and with binoculars in hand, encounter countless animals, from red squirrel to the magnificent red deer. Your day could take you up mountain tracks, over rolling hills and along riversides in search of the elusive British wildlife.
A Festive Ceilidh in a Castle
From stunning castles to impressive manor houses, the UK has a vast array of festive properties that will provide a magical Christmas time. Big cosy fireplaces in majestic drawing rooms, welcoming ballrooms for a festive ceilidh, and a magical backdrop for your New Year’s Eve firework display.
